Aosta is the capital and largest city of the Aosta Valley, a bilingual region in the Alps, 110 km (68 mi) north-northwest of Turin in Italy. It is situated near the Italian entrance of the Mont Blanc Tunnel and the Great St Bernard Tunnel, at the confluence of the Buthier and the Dora Baltea, and at the junction of the Great and Little St Bernard Pass routes. It has 33,127 inhabitants.

As you wander through the streets of Aosta, you'll be transported back in time to the days of ancient Rome. The town was founded by the Romans in 25 BC and many of the original structures still stand today. The most impressive of these is the Arch of Augustus, which was built to honor the Roman Emperor Augustus. It's a must-see for any history buff.

But Aosta isn't just about history. The town is also known for its delicious food and wine. Be sure to try the local specialty, carbonade, a hearty stew made with beef, onions, and red wine. And of course, you can't leave without sampling some of the region's famous wines, such as Torrette and Blanc de Morgex et de La Salle.
